100 Mile Ruck March Challenge
100 Mile Ruck March Challenge – Matt Martunas
Raising Money in Support of Families Battling Childhood Cancer.
This year I am competing in the second annual 100 Mile Ruck March Challenge. This event was created by Rick Porter, Owner of Cinch IT, and a former Army Ranger. This Military based challenge invites 30 participants to Ruck (Hike) 25 miles a day for 4 consecutive days for a grand total of 100 miles; all while carrying a 40-pound ruck pack that consists of the essentials of food, water, clothing, and shelter. Each night, the participants will camp out on a farm at a local brewery and come sunrise the following morning, will take the next steps toward another 25-mile day.
The event was created to raise money for the Why Me & Sherry’s House in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Sherry’s House provides no cost housing and support to families while their child is receiving cancer treatment in a New England area hospital, while the Why Me (Worcester Help for Youth, Memories Everlasting) is a Worcester Based non-profit organization created to help Central New England families cope with childhood cancer.
In addition to raising money for such an amazing organization, I have personally been able to use this opportunity to demonstrate to my three children the importance and magnitude of doing selfless acts for people and organizations in need of help. My children have watched me train for this event over the last six months, all the while, continuing to discuss the motives behind the preparation that lie in the foundations of goal setting, commitment, discipline, and sacrifice.
I am respectively asking each of you to not only support this great event but to also utilize your social media accounts and spread awareness of this great cause with your families, friends, and colleagues. Whether or not you know me personally, or even live within the State of Massachusetts, we all know or have heard of someone that has been affected by Cancer. Please support me in this year’s 100 Mile Ruck March Challenge!
I thank each of you in advance for your contributions.
