100 Mile Ruck March Challenge
Mind Over Matter…It’s Only 100 Miles – Holly Dube
Why do I say “It’s only 100 miles”? My daughter Samantha was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on November 2, 2017 when she was only twelve years old. If she can survive numerous hospital stays (including ICU), fevers, port placement, blood & platelet transfusions, lumbar punctures, medicine after medicine – that made her hair fall out, nauseous, lethargic, and every other feeling – missing her last year of elementary school, social isolation, and so many more circumstances then I can walk 100 miles in four days!
A lot of people do not realize the toll cancer takes on a persons body or their family. Why Me and Sherry’s House was there for my family from the very beginning. They provided us with so much support and guidance throughout her two years of treatment and are still there for us now. They also have provided us many opportunities to help us be a “normal” family for a little while with the amount of activities they offer. Participating in this Ruck March is an amazing way to help give back to them! Please help by donating to my fundraiser and inspire me to take one step at a time this July!!
What is a Ruck March?
A ruck march is a military term for walking with a weighted rucksack, essentially a big backpack, Rucking often implies traveling long distances while carrying what you need to survive.
The 100 Mile Ruck March Challenge is a military inspired event, where a small group of Athletes will Ruck (hike) 25 miles a day for 4 days. Camping out each night on the farm of a local brewery and continuing the march at sunrise each morning. Athletes will carry everything they will need for this 4-day event on their backs, navigate the 100 mile course, cook their own meals, set up and break down their own camps each night, tend to their feet and bodies, all in an attempt to earn the coveted 100 Mile Ruck March Finisher Medal.
